Winter League, Fur and Feather Round 5, Sunday 14th January:
At least no one could complain about the weather this time around. A bumper turnout on a cold but sunny day, the only thing that was missing were the roach, not even the eyes seemed interested (red fined ba***rds!).
With nothing happening on peg 1, and contemplating a cast into the river for a bass, Simon Allen decided to go down the edge for the carp instead. Using pop up boilee and casting towards the Lock he tempted two lumps for a combined weight of 13lb 7ozs, winning the match and the biggest fish prize with a 7lb 5oz common. London Tone on peg 2 could only watch in dismay as he saw his league lead disappear along with his £5 bet* with Si, he asked for a £3 cash out option after Si's first carp, but Si refused.
Meanwhile on pegs 25 and 26 Guy Pessell and Ady Larkins were going skimmer for skimmer throughout the match. In the end Guy attracted a better stamp of fish, mostly taken on double red, and edged past Ady by 2ozs with a 5lbs 13oz net for second place, pushing Ady into third.
There were section wins for Rob Fuller who did consistently find a few roach in the Second Basin for a 3lb return, Adrian Hill who banked over 2lbs of silvers to win the Lower Basin section, and Tony Hillas (aka London Tone) who's 1oz was enough to win the narrows section courtesy of Simon Allen's win.
Apologies for the lack of peg numbers in the results below, I will try and rectify this asap. I am still trying to figure out how I managed to blank and ended up in biscuit territory!
