Winter League Round 6, Sunday 12th January:
It was decided to put the Basin and lower numbers in the draw to ensure everyone had some deep water to try and tempt a few fish in what was anticipated to be a hard match. And it was with bread punch and pinkie the order of the day.
After losing a carp early doors Matt Sampson stepped up the tackle and netted a 10lb common to effectively take the win with two hours to go, much to the annoyance of everyone else scratching for bits! Len Hancock also had a chance for glory but lost the carp he hooked (unlike the dustbin, but that is another story).
Adrian Hill stuck to the task in hand and netted 30+ redfins with the odd gonk for the only other a double figure bag of the day with 11ozs! Equal third went to Mark Gratton and Kevin Hill who both managed to bring 5ozs of redfins to the net.
Jack Crystal won the Junior section with 3ozs, a bag that included a prize 1oz flounder (perhaps flounders are the answer to beat the cormorants).
There were multiple tied section winners, Paul Braund and Rob Fuller in the single number pegs with 4ozs each, with a three way tie in the Basin between Len Hancock, Mike and Jean Bowden with 1oz each. At least the prize money was well shared out.
It can’t get any worse, can it?
