Summer League R3

Summer League R3 – Tom King Trophy

Tony Hillas was off to a flyer on peg 18 in the first hour and a half netting two slabs on the long pole in between a succession of silvers.  Sticking to the long pole Tony found a couple more bream and a 2lb bonus eel at the end saw him comfortably win the Tom King Trophy with 17lbs 3ozs.  All through the contest Simon Allen was trying to close the gap off peg 14 but there were no bonus slabs to be had although he did bank 14lbs of skimmers and silvers for second.  Tony Johns did find the better skimmers off end peg 35 for a third place net of 11lbs 11ozs.

Brian Powel took the Second Basin section with 9lbs of redfins and Paul Braund was an ounce short of 7lbs to take the Lower Basin section with redfins and perch on the whip (no skimmers) from peg 19.

Summer League R2

Summer League R2 – Martin Group Services Shield

It was Jack Crystals first win in the senior division and he did it in style with a 12lb 3oz bag, just edging out Simon Allen by 2ozs.  Jack kept the skimmers coming on the tip from peg 14 which was just as well as he was on the bronze peg and scooped an additional £80 in prize money.  At the other end of the canal Simon was alternating between pole and waggler on 34 to pick up 12lbs of silvers.  Ady Larkins finished a creditable 3rd with another double figure bag of silvers off tricky peg 31.

There were section wins on the end pegs for Andy Southy (peg 13 tip, skimmers) and Len Hancock,(peg 35 waggler, skimmers).

AGM

The Annual General Meeting remains deferred to a future date when government advice allows our members to gather safely to conduct business.

Thank you for following the advice of the Government and using common sense when angling under various restrictions.  Whilst there were a few ‘incidents’ these were thankfully few, and this has made negotiations with our Landlords much easier and enabled the whole length of the canal to be re-opened at the first opportunity.

Paul Braund

Chairman BCAA

Summer League R1

Summer League Round 1,  Monica Jones Cup, Sunday 21st June:

For the record, 24 anglers fished the corresponding competition in 2017 and banked 58lbs 4ozs, 22 fished in 2018 banked 84lbs 8ozs, and 21 in 2019 banking 119lbs (inc 30lbs of carp).  This year, with 5 less anglers  the total was 106lbs with no carp, so we are steadily improving the weights.

After a mega catch off peg 31 in the week Dave Allen followed that up in the match with nearly 13lbs of skimmers and roach to win the Monica Jones Cup off adjacent peg 30.  Jack Crystal posted his best ever result with a double figure bag of skimmers taken on the pole from peg 18 to finish runner up.   Mark Gratton chopped and changed between the pole and tip off peg 13 to bank 9lb 10zs of silvers (with a 2lb bonus bream) for third place.

There were section wins for carp king Ryan Willshire in the Second Basin who used wag ‘n mag to net 9lbs of silvers.  The Lower Basin  section win went to Andy Southey who put the tip to good use and bagged  a decent bream and a couple of dog eels to boost his total  catch to 8lb 11ozs.

Match Entry and Weigh-in Arrangements

Match Day Arrangements

If you are intending to fish any of the matches please abide by the following arrangements.

Please adhere to the two meter social distancing.

Draw

Please ensure you have the correct entrance money (£10 senior, £2 junior).  There will be a collection bucket for entrants to drop their money into and have their name recorded as entered. That money will then be bagged safely and stored.

Once everyone has paid, the Match Secretary will draw each number from the magic bag in order of payment (i.e. first to pay will be first out the bag and so on). As soon as you have been allocated a peg number make your way to the peg as normal.

The Brendon Car Park is big, so please try to keep the two meter social distancing.

The weigh in.

We will be using weighing in cradles if available (or a suitable alternative if not).

The weigh in will need to be done by the same two people in each section one weighing one writing down, we will be seeking two volunteers from each section.

The angler empties their fish into the cradle and steps back to a distance of two meters.  The weigh Team take it from there and as is normal inform the angler of their weight.  The person weighing the fish will release the fish as well, no passing the sling to the person who caught them.

Do not follow the weighing in team!

Prize giving

The prize money issued will have been in storage for at least two weeks (months in the case of the first match!).

If you are really worried bring a seal-able plastic bag and the Match Secretary will place the money into the bag whilst you hold it, you can seal it, and leave for at least three days.
