Bude Canal Angling Association

Bude Canal is open for angling.

DREDGING WORKS EASTER 2024 UPDATE

All operations over the Easter break, from Good Friday through Easter Monday will be suspended. This means there will be no activity related to the dredging or the piling projects on the canal,  in the upper basin and harbour.

Having completed the pile installation for the embankment repairs, it is hoped this will reduce noise disturbance to the local community.

Starting on Tuesday 2nd April, dredging operations will commence on the inland zone from Truscott’s bridge, with pipework taking silts to Whalesborough.

From Wednesday 3rd work will resume on the embankment  repairs with all works within the fenced-off area and inside the silt curtain installed along the line of the piles, so there will be no encroachment into the canal for these works.

Anglers are especially reminded of the following:

  • Anglers to carry their BCAA ID Card/ Day/Night Ticket and EA Rod Licence with them when fishing.
  • No Fishing within 15 metres of another angler. Please fish within the peg from which you are fishing.  If anglers turn up and fish pegs that you are fishing to from a distance, they have every right to do so and you will need to fish within your peg number.
  • You must be within an arms length of any rod or rods that are in use.
  • When fishing the Lower Basin or narrow sections of the canal please avoid placing your rod bag/keepnet bag, etc immediately behind you, place them to the side and maximise space for towpath users to pass.

When Night fishing (Our lease does not permit night fishing at Whalesborough Lake):

  • No more than two rods to be in use at any time.
  • If Fishing pegs 1 to 42, remember you are in a residential area, keep noise and use of headlights to an absolute minimum.  Avoid shining headlights on adjacent buildings.
  • Do not block the towpath with bivvies, this includes the west grass bank from Falcon Bridge to the Lock Gates which is a designated towpath.  A 1 meter access must be retained for pedestrians at all times, for absolute clarity this includes the hours of darkness.
  • Bivvies can only be erected after sunset and must be taken down by 8am.
