Sunday 17th December - Winter league R5, Brian Putt Trophy (Fur and Feather)
For once it was a relatively mild day for the Fur and Feather, with overcast skies and a slight breeze greating the 22 competitors. With dredging underway it was necessary to include the Brendon Car Park pegs 21, 22 and double peg the Lower Basin with five fishing the Wharf side (pegs indicated by a 'w').
It was a bonus 11lb carp hooked early doors on the long pole (single pinkie, 18 hook and no.6 elastic) and landed after nearly an hour that won the contest for Simon Allen from peg 4. Simon manged to find a few roach and skimmers for an additionl 3lbs that took him clear of Ryan Willshire who finished as runner up. Ryan was on favoured peg 18 and the bream finally showed for him in the last couple of hours, banking three decent slabs and few additional skimmers on the long pole for 12lbs 5ozs. Thankfully he did not catch on the tip, as his feeder clearly passed the half way mark on a couple of occasions prompting remonstrations from Tony Hillas on the opposite bank! Adrian Hill plugged away on the punch from peg 14 and was rewarded with a decent slab and a small tench amongst the numerours roach for 5lbs 13ozs and a third place finish.
Section 1-6 was won by Dick Turner with 3lbs 4ozs of silvers, Section 7 - 15 by Rob Fuller with 4lbs 8 ozs of silvers and Matt Sampson (fishing the bow of the Barge Cafe from the Wharf side), with 5lbs 4ozs of skimmers.
There was a welcome soup and role for all the anglers donated from Kate in the Barge Cafe, distributed by Rob from Waterfront Shooting and Fishing. Rob and Jason 'Bones' Napier also domnated to the prize table, which allowed for a raffle raising £108 for the Association charity pot.
