Sunday 15th December, Fur and Feather, - Winter League Round 4
No one wanted to draw the second basin but on a blustery and wet day Tony Hilias banked 5lbs of silvers on the wag n mag in the first two hours that would would see him home to victory. Two pegs away Tony Johns pushed him late on with three skimmers taken on the tip and wag but in the end time ran out and he had to settle for second spot. Simon Allen managed to bank a carp to secure third place, he now leads the winter league by an impressive 16 point margin, the title all but done and dusted and we are not even into the New Year! There were further lost carp fpr Simon, Derek Foster also lost a biggun after after a lengthy tussle, and Mike Bowden was broken up in the last few minutes of the contest. Simon Hockaday took a fine roach of 1lb 3ozs to win his section, likewise Ady Larkins, Mike Bowden and Wayne Burnard all secured section wins. Whilst the fishing was not at its best it was a far cry from the days of only three fish caught and most of us just thrilled to get a bite!
