Corvid 19 April Update

Tuesday, 21 April 2020

Tuesday, April 21st 2020

Dear Member,

We continue find ourselves in a ‘lock down’ situation during the Corvid-19 outbreak.  The Government has made it clear that angling is not currently categorised a permitted exercise and travelling to go fishing is not allowable. Our fisheries therefore remain closed until further notice in order to comply with the current restrictions. These now have the force of law under the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020.  As a reminder currently

people will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:

  • shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible;
  • one form of exercise a day – for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household;
  • any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person; and
  • travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home

Until the situation changes the strong advice is not to fish but to STAY SAFE, STAY HOME, SUPPORT THE NHS and help SAVE LIVES.

Under section 5h of the Rules and Regulations of BCAA, the Senior Offices of the Association continue to take action and an update is given below.

Membership Renewal

The 2019-20 membership season has been extended to 31st August 2020 with immediate effect.  Your current membership will therefore continue, at no extra cost, until that date.  Arrangements for 2020-21 membership renewal will be communicated to members in July when it is hoped a clearer picture with regards recreational angling will be known.

AGM

The Annual General Meeting has been deferred to a future date when government advice allows our members to gather safely to conduct business.  The current elected officers will continue until we are able to convene an AGM.  Our Treasurer has prepared the annual financial accounts and Members will have an opportunity to scrutinise and approve those accounts when we are able to convene the AGM.

Buffet Presentation Evening

With the closure of restaurants and pubs we have had to postpone the Annual Buffet Presentation evening planned for May.

Match Fishing

All matches have been cancelled until we are advised otherwise.  We will update and publish a revised fixture list when able.

We will issue a further communication as and when but no later than the last week of July.

Please follow the advice of the Government and keep yourself and your families safe.

Paul Braund

Chairman BCAA
