Saturday 18th April - Junior Development Day Match
Seven juniors took part in the first Junior Development Day of the year which was structured around a 45 minute tuition on whip fishing, followed by a 2 hour match.
Whilst the weather was bright and sunny, a nagging onshore wind made the angling conditions a little tricky. However, once everyone had received some basic tuition on set up and methods and mastered the basics of 4 meter whip fishing, there was soon a steady procession of roach and rudd coming to the bank. With everyone feeding steadily with maggot, the larger skimmer bream eventually moved in, with those pegged towards the boathouse fairing the best with the top three weights coming from this section.
Top weight went to Noah Baldock off the end peg, who despite losing a large carp early doors, found a number of skimmer bream late on to build a winning weight of 6lbs. Fishing on the adjacent peg, Mawgan Davage bagged a decent bream to add to a number of roach and rudd but fell just 3ozs short at the weigh in, having to settle for second place with 5lbs 13ozs. Third place went to Dexter Jones, again finding a few skimmers to boost the silver fish catch to a total of 5lbs 7ozs. There were some hard luck stories with most anglers losing at least one decent fish, which on the day would have made a huge difference to their overall result. (I blame thier tutors!)
Noah Baldock with a 6lbs Winning Catch
A big thanks goes out to everyone who donated tackle for prizes and to the Senior Members who gave up their time to provide the tuition. Also, a big thanks to all the participants who mastered the whip in super quick time with everyone catching. We will be holding further events along similar lines in the Summer so please keep an eye on the web sight for further details.
