Summer League Round 1: Tom King Trophy
The opening contest of the season saw 24 anglers competing for a new trophy in memory of our good friend Tom King. The contest lived up to expectation with the Bird Hide producing the expected carp. Peter 'Tacker' Giles used the method feeder to good effect on end peg 47 to tame a couple of 'dogs', one weighing in at over 11lbs. It was just enough to see off the challenge of Matt Sampson who 'muscled' a few carp out using the pole on nearby peg 45, losing a couple on the way that would have won him the contest.
As in previous opening contests the bream failed to show in the basins and it was down to the silvers for the other places. Nathan Underwood bagged just over the 10lbs for third spot using his trusted 11 metre pole to see off Simon Allen who finished fourth 1lb 5ozs behind. There were section wins for Ian Gray, Ian Croxton and Kevin Hill who all picked out bags of silvers on what turned out to be a quiet start to the new match season.
