Summer League R1 Monica Jones Cup

Sunday 15th May - Monica Jones Cup

Spirits were high with tales of mid week double figure bags from both Lower and Upper Basins but as it turned out, with a stiff southerly wind blowing, you needed a low draw to frame in this contest. 

Matt Sampson doggedly hung onto his pole to amass 12lbs of skimmers from peg 14,watching on early doors as the anglers to his left and right banked a couple of real donkey slabs apiece.  In the end he had enough to see off Andy Southys challenge as Andy stuck to the tip and fell 1lb short finishing 2nd.  John Townsend fishing peg 13 added a few more skimmers to his two early doors slabs to finish third with 9lbs.

It was a completly different story in the Second Basin where it was a real struggle with everyone searching for bits.  Brian Powel had an end peg advantage and amassed 2lbs 11ozs of silvers which was easily enough to win the section. Mark Gratton closed out the Lower Basin with 7lbs of skimmers for the section win.

It was a bad day for the Allens with a rare blank for Simon and Dave having to share second in section with DT after his grandaughter threw Daves 3oz fish back into the canal after having a look at it! Things can only get better.
