Summer League Round 10, Reg Howard Trophy, Sunday 19th September:
With three sections in play it was anyones guess where the bags were going to come from. It turned out to be a Bird Hide v Lower Basin contest with the Bird Hide coming out on top. Steve Maynard got the long pole working on peg 46 and consistently gathered the silvers for a winning bag of 8lbs 10ozs. Simon Allen on 18 had a few skimmers on the tip in the closing stages from the Lower Basin to get him over the line in second, but not enough quality fish to catch Steve, ending with 8lb 3ozs. Simon did however wrap up the Summer League Title winning it with 135 points.
Tony Hillas was hampered when he managed to stand on his glasses and break them, but he still managed to find enough silvers from Bird Hide peg 44 to finish 2ozs ahead of Paul Braund for Third place. Paul had stuck to the inside line off peg 16 all match and was rewarded with a decent skimmer on the whistle to take that section at the death with 6lbs 14ozs. Dave Allen netted 3lbs 5ozs of bits to win the tough Second Basin section (its due to fish a cracker at this time of year so don't despair if drawing green) and Len rounded off the Bird Hide with a 3lbs and the section win.
