Phyllis Turner Trophy - Roach and Rudd Match
Moving the competition to Whalesborogh Lake turned out to be an excellent decision with over 70lbs of redfins banked by the 13 anglers.
Fishing the Weir Cafe bank Tony Hillas managed a double figure bag banking 3ozs short of 11lbs to easily win the match using short pole tactics from peg 17. Simon Allen also used short pole tacktics to net 8lbs from the same bank off peg 13. Paul Braund took third place with 270 fish for 7lbs (yes, mostly small fish). There were section wins for Brian Powel (who had three 10oz dog roach in his 6lb bag) and Matt Sampson who also banked 6lbs of redfins.
There were number of good skimmer bream and a few carp netted in what turned out to be an eventful contest. The smaller rudd and roach were transferred to the Middle Pound section of the canal to reduce the small fish population in the lake.
Next Sundays final match of the Summer League will have the closest finish for many seasons with two points covering the current leader Andy Southey, second place Simon Allen and third place Tony Hillas.
