The 43rd running of the Monica Jones Cup opened the Sunday Summer League on Bude Canal. It was the Upper Wharf that produced the best catches with all top three finishers coming from this section.
Nathan Underwood clinched the win with 5lbs 13ozs of roach, rudd and a large bream taken on the pole from peg 34. After a year’s absence Brian Powel returned to the match scene with a fine 5lb 8oz mixed bag of roach, rudd, perch and eels from peg 27, easily enough for second place.
Defending champion Dave Allen carried on where he had left off last season and secured the final podium spot with a brace of bream for 4lb 13ozs. A large number of small rudd taken from the Bird Hide using a 7 metre whip secured 4th place and a section win for Paul Braund.
