Winter League R6

Sunday 25th January - Winter League R6

After a week of torrential rain the canal was the colour of cocoa and the lock gate paddles were being opened and closed with the level falling and rising 12" during the match.  With the exceptional conditions it was decided to peg all 11 anglers in the Lower Basin, with peg 1 on normal peg 20, and peg 11 on normal peg 13.

Bites were at a premium for everyone with the contest being won by Paul Braund, with three bites and two fish, a 4lb 13oz bream and a two ounce roach.  Both fish fell to pinkies on a 4meter whip off peg 7.   On peg 3 Andy Southy stuck to his trusted tip and eventually bagged a 3lb bream on the wafter to boost his net to 3lb 8ozs and second place. Tone Johns did find 4 fish (all of different species!) from peg 1 with a 2lb 8oz bream the best of those, and but for another lost bream he thinks was foul hooked he would have surely won rather than settling for third.

There were two blanks and everyone else struggled to bring all but a few 'bits' to the scales.  The only positive was the mild weather and calm conditions.
