Saturday 8th August - Sign 'O' Times Perpetual Junior Cup
Sunny and relatively calm conditions greeted the eight junior anglers who competed for the Sign 'O' Times Junior cup after a 19 year absence (the last winner of the trophy being Ryan Willshire, whatever happened to him!!!!).
It was a classic end peg match performance from Fred Wightman who stuck to the 4 meter whip from start to finish and slowly amassed a winning bag of silvers with a 1lb bonus eel, for a solid 3lbs 5ozs. A late skimmer bream taken on the tip by Alfie Yates put the result into doubt but at the weigh in Alfie could not outdo Fred and had to settle for second with 1lb 11ozs. Joshua Philp managed to bag up on small roach and perch on the 3 meter whip to net just shy of 1lb for a creditable third place, one bonus bigger fish away from a better result.
