Winter League R1

Sunday 12th October 2025 - Paul Drissel Trophy - Winter League Round 1

There is always a date in the autumn when the Second Basin delivers, and in 2025 this was that day with the top six weights coming from the section.  Adrian Hill made the most of end peg 33 and bagged 18lbs 8ozs of bream, including a few 3lb+ slabs, to beat Tony Hillas at the other end of the section on peg 27 who netted 17lbs 7ozs. Tony also bagged up on skimmers with a 4lb bonus slab.  Simon Allen finshed off the medal positions with a 12lb 6oz bag of skimmers (with a bonus 4lb 1oz slab) for third.

There was a true section win for Dave Allen who came out top in the Lower Basin by 5ozs with just over 9lbs from peg 14 and Den Law picked up a default section win in the Second Basin with an ounce under 10lbs from peg 30.

This annual match is fished in the memory of Paul Drissel, who we know loved a slab bream or two, and famoulsly gave us the call 'hubba' on hooking one! So it was fitting so many slab bream came out on a day where a bottle of rum kindly donated by Rob at Waterfront Shooting and Fishing is awarded for the biggest bream.  With so many slabs being banked in the Second Basin, the balance was redressed a little with a 4lb 12oz specimen (a true Mickey fish for those in the know) landed by Tone Johns from peg 15, winning the rum from Simon Allen by 13ozs.
