Pairs League Round 6 - Stu Bell Trophy

A 5lb carp hooked on the whip and light tackle with 15 minutes to go and landed with only minutes extra playing time remaining saw the Tiscott Boys win the coveted Stu Bell Trophy by 3 points. The carp gave Paul Braund 3rd place on Whalesborough Lake whilst partner Tony Johns was storming to victory in the Stock Pond section with 8lbs of bits.
Simon Hockaday was one of the few anglers to consistently find the carp on the Lake, winning the section with over 17lbs, and with partner Steve Whitehouse finishing 5th in the Pond they secured second place by 1 point.
It was the closest pairs match of the season points wise, this was illustrated by a tie between three teams for third that included the hot favourites for the title the 'New Halwill Hustlers' and 'Me and My Boy', with 'long odds' team the Bude Bay Pirates making up the trio.
With two matches to go in this years fiercely competitive pairs league there is now limited time for someone to break the stranglehold at the top of the league held by the Me and My Boy and the Halwill Hustlers over recent years.
