Reg Howard Trophy: Summer League Round 10, Sunday 5th October:
The final match of the Summer league finished with the two main protagonists finishing 1st and 2nd with the champion elect Simon Allen coming out on top. Simon drew the fancied Bird Hide section and within 10 minutes had a 6lb common on the bank! He went on to really test his elasticated pole to land five more carp to 8lbs for a near 35lbs haul. Nathan Underwood was on peg 35, another well known flyer, but the big fish were not playing and he had to be content with 11lbs of silvers. After loosing two carp at the Bird Hide Matt Sampson changed tactics and found a couple of 3lb slabs from mid channel and backed this up with a number of other skimmers for a 10lb+ bag and third spot.
Elsewhere it was a struggle as the overnight rain and drop in temperature appeared to put the fish down. Paul Braund, Ian Gray and Jim Escott won their respective sections with 7lb(ish) bags of silvers where 10lbs would have been a minimum just a couple of weeks ago. Kieran Durrant was just short of 2lbs of silvers to win the junior section (beating a few seniors along the way!) and win the junior Summer League.
The match scene moves onto the winter league in two weeks time so time to break out the thermals, bread punches and size 26 hooks.
