Winter League Round 5, Sunday 11th December:
It was a good day for Kevin Hill. After drawing a fancied Lower Basin peg he stuck to the long pole and bagged a succession of silvers plus a bonus 4lb slab for a comprehensive winning weight. Kevin's prize money was boosted by £100 as he had drawn the 'Silver Peg', and his slab also won him a bottle of scotch for the biggest fish of the day. Upstream from Kevin on peg 18 Dick Turner was more than matching him on the silvers count but lacked the bonus 'lump' to improve on his eventual second spot. However, he had the bonus of going top of the League, the question is can he hold onto it as no one has held the lead for more than one match yet. Downstream on peg 16 Len Hancock stuck to the waggler all day and netted enough silvers for just over 4lbs and third spot.
Adrian Hill finished off the Lower Basin shut out taking fourth place after a late switch to fishing the inside and picking up a few silver bars on the pinkie and punch.
Simon Allen bagged around 100 fish for his 3lbs and the section win in the Second Basin (30-35) pinkie and bread punch doing the damage, and yes , they were mainly small fish. Tony Hilias bagged around 40 fish to take the Second Basin (25-29) section win (inadvertently upsetting Ady Larkins in the process who was expecting a second in section). Rob Fuller rounded off the section wins with 15ozs of small roach from the Narrows section where pegs 2 to 6 had a great view of the large surf rolling onto Summerleaze beach.
